Whoa! Not done after all. I just remembered a conversation Adam and I had over the weekend. He bought himself a new feather duster recently and I was like, HUH? He reminded me that I had thrown away his old duster several years ago, and he was always annoyed (or did he say destroyed?), so he bought a new one. Here's where we differ on dusting: I say you have to dust with a rag and polish because it wipes the dust away and gets rid of it. He says there's no such thing as getting rid of dust, that the dust will always be back, so it doesn't matter if you just sweep it into the air or not. I know that dust always comes back, duh, but my theory is that it comes back much later if you wipe it and it comes back much sooner if you just flick it around with the feather duster. Jury? Settle this.
And now I will attend to my children who could be drowning in the bathtub for all I know.
I dust with a microfiber towel and polish too. I'm pretty sure that yes, dust does come back (hello Captain Obvious), but using a microfiber cloth or another damp cloth collects the dust and of course new dust will form later but if you just move it around with a dry cloth or feather duster than new dust collects on the old dust.
ReplyDeleteBut feather dusters are so antique and old-fashion and you can put doilies on your head and 1950s aprons and dance and dust! (Anyone else do that at a child?? No, just me? hmmm)
ReplyDeleteNot saying Adam is a child. We actually still have a feather duster. For the books. Dust, then vacuum.
Hahahha, Angela, this is EXACTLY the feather duster you are imagining. He is such an old man for owning it, and for keeping it on his desk. (I didn't put doilies on my head or dance while dusting when I was younger, but I can TOTALLY see you doing that and it makes me laugh).
ReplyDeleteAnd that's funny you mention the order of dusting and vacuuming. For some reason I've always wondered what the correct order is. But couldn't you vacuum and emit dust into the air, and then have to dust again? At least that's how it works with our ancient, horrible, gross-smelling vacuum. The room actually smells worse after I use it, that's how I know something must be wrong. A new vacuum WILL be one of our post-school purchases. I cannot wait.
Amanda, thank you. I need to tell him about the old dust settling on the new dust, because that is exactly what I mean.
I never ever thought about an order for such things, and I am learning so much! Swiffer 360 duster, and that puppy works as advertised.
ReplyDeleteMARTHA, have a few vacuums you can borrow.. Stop suffering and come on over.
