Pee so much freaking pee!

Every day I let Hyrum choose if he wants to wear underpants or a pull-up diaper. Most days he has underpants on he does not have accidents. Today he chose underpants and had 3 accidents (carseat, couch!!! and one that was not a huge problem).  I have been using my homemade disinfecting cleaner spray for the carpets, etc but a couch cushion? How do I clean that up? Right now I soaked up what I could and then covered the area on the cushion with baking soda. Any great potty training clean up ideas you have would be much appreciated.

  1. My strategy has just been to absorb as much as I can, scrub with soap and water and then pretend it never happened. urine is sterile, right?

  2. *WARNING* the potty training tips I give are more time intensive (yet very effective) and thus not for the faint of heart.
Make the trainee clean up all messes. Yes, time, that's what it takes. It's so much easier to just do it yourself; but then they're so separated from the real cause and effect of not going to the bathroom where they should.
If you're really going to switch to underwear, just do it, no more messing about with diapers or pull-ups. Result: less confusion, fewer months involved in the actual potty training time. Heck yeah, the accidents are persistent and many in the beginning, BUT if you follow the first rule, they catch themselves quicker...fewer messes. They don't particularly enjoy cleaning up messes either.
Last one, I like the idea of a cool shower for cleaning off any yuck accidents from trainee. Not a happy experience, but not torture, and they will want to avoid it...not as many messes!
    Best of luck!
*Just remember, this will be over some time, it is just a phase.

  3. :-) The cushion turned out ok. I laundered the cover then soaked up the spot on the inner cushion and covered it with baking soda. I will vac it off when the cover dries.
I DO make Hyrum take a cold rinse when he has an accident but I don't make him clean up the mess anymore. He LOVES cleaning up messes so it was not a punishment at all. I do really need to make the full on switch to underpants and say a full goodbye to daytime diapers. But as Emily mentioned it's not for the faint of heart and I really hate cleaning up pee in the car.
