Littlest Helpers are the best!

I was explaining to Mason the other day about the cleaning challenge and he asked me if he was "clean enough to win?" I love that kid. I told him that if he put his own shoes in the hanging organizer and made his bed every day(among his other responsibilities), then he could win a prize too .

I told him to do it for 7 days... that's how long its "supposedly" takes to form a habit, right? :)

Ladies... day 3, his bed made first thing in the morning. Boom!

So here's my question: What chores do your children do and at what age did you start? I think I started late with Mason and am trying to start earlier with Van.

  1. The boys clean downstairs each night (no toys on the floor after they are in bed, yay!) clear their dishes from the table, clean-up their room every saturday, and most recently put their clothes away after folded (IF I can get it done before they go to bed.) Also, if anyone misses the toilet, I make them wipe that up, yeck!

  2. Oh, they start when able, Levi puts his dirty clothes in the hamper, clears his spot from the table(with one of us spotting him) and basically everything else...never too early I guess!

  3. That's awesome that Mason is in to it too. What a great kid. One of my parenting goals for this week is to have the kids do more chores. I feel like I haven't been involving them as much as I should. but man, it is more work to have them help than to just do it myself.

  4. Ugh I am terrible at having Hyrum regularly do any kind of chore. I do make him put his dirty clothes in his hamper each day and he has to pick up any food he drops during meal and put it in the garbage. Sometimes he picks up his toys/books and clears his dishes off the table. I let him help me bake and he likes to put all my measuring spoons/cups in the sink and unload the dishwasher when it ready (only a few broken dishes so far). We really need to work on consistently having him pick up toys, etc.
Any ideas for chore charts? Has anyone had success with them?

  5. I'm pretty erratic with getting help from Sienna. Sometimes she relishes helping and other times she says "no." So, I just try to get help when I can. Never too early to get them going, I agree!
